Agricultural development initiatives expand production in La Araucanía
Various agricultural investments are enhancing production capabilities in the La Araucanía region of Chile. In Freire, INDAP has invested over $128 million into two projects under the Associative Irrigation Program. This funding supports four families from the Antonio Canio Indigenous Community, specifically the Quintremán Canio and Canio Panguinao groups. The investment includes advanced sprinkler technology, motor pumps, and piping, which will bring 16.4 hectares under irrigation to support vegetable production during the summer season.
In Loncoche, raspberry producer Harry Fuller has expanded his operations from half a hectare to four hectares. Supported by Corfo and the La Araucanía Regional Government through the Agricultural Diversification Support program, Fuller has implemented cold storage technology. The installation of a cold chamber with an 8,000-kilogram capacity and a cold tunnel allows for the freezing of up to 800 kilograms of fruit daily, enabling him to supply major supermarket chains, bakeries, and restaurants.
