Agricultural diversification efforts launched in Izeh and Varamin
Agricultural authorities in Iran are promoting new farming initiatives to boost economic growth and manage environmental challenges. In Izeh, located in Khuzestan province, officials are exploring ostrich farming as a means to create direct and indirect employment. The project aims to utilize the region's climatic conditions to diversify livestock production and improve rural livelihoods through the sale of meat, skin, and fat.
In Varamin, authorities are encouraging the cultivation of angelica (Ferula assa-foetida) to combat water scarcity. Given the limited water resources over the past few years, this medicinal plant is being promoted as a long-term investment due to its low water requirements. While the plant requires several years of care before sap harvesting begins, it can remain productive for over 25 years, offering a potential economic alternative for local farmers.
