Agricultural diversification in Vietnam shows economic potential
Farmers in various Vietnamese regions are finding success by diversifying crops and investing in specialized agriculture. In Vinh Thong commune, star anise plantations have become a stable source of income for local residents. While much of the harvest is currently sold as fresh fruit, cooperatives are working to increase value through processing, such as producing star anise essential oils for export.
In Gia Lai province, farmer Ho Dung has invested over 1.3 billion VND to establish a grape plantation on difficult terrain in Ia Hru commune. Despite initial skepticism and harsh weather conditions, his 5,000 square meter farm—which utilizes greenhouse technology to manage humidity and temperature—now produces various grape varieties and serves as a local tourist attraction.
