Agricultural forecasts show growth in Algarve wine and decline in Brazil sugar

Wine production in the Algarve region of Portugal is projected to grow by 12% to 15% compared to 2025 levels. According to the Algarve Wine Commission (CVA), the industry aims to approach the record production of nearly two million liters set in 2024. While 2025 saw quantitative decreases, the upcoming seasons are expected to see improved grape quality and higher volumes, with production potentially reaching between 1.8 and 1.9 million liters by 2026.

In Brazil, Rabobank analysts predict a likely decline in sugar production for the Centro-Sul region during the 2026/27 harvest. Despite expectations for high sugarcane milling volumes—estimated between 630 million and 645 million tons—a shift in the production mix toward ethanol is expected to reduce total sugar output. Current data indicates that sugar production reached 16.9 million tons through July, compared to 19.2 million tons during the same period last year.
