Agricultural infrastructure projects launched in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh

In Jammu and Kashmir, the Horticultural Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation (JKHPMC) has proposed a Rs 20 crore government investment to revive a stalled integrated pack house and cold storage project in Shopian. The project, originally conceived in 2005, faced delays due to contractor defaults and design changes. The revised plan aims to modernize the facility with a grading, packing, and waxing line, alongside a 2,000-metric-tonne controlled-atmosphere storage facility, to improve post-harvest handling for apple growers.

In Himachal Pradesh, Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi inaugurated the state’s first HP SHIVA monorail project in the Mandi district. The one-kilometre monorail, built at a cost of approximately Rs 20 lakh, is designed to assist farmers in transporting produce across steep and difficult terrain. This initiative is part of the broader HP SHIVA project, funded by the Asian Development Bank, which aims to increase farming income across seven districts. The project's duration has been extended to June 2030.
