Agricultural initiatives launched in Burkina Faso and Senegal

Burkina Faso has launched the ‘Zero Empty Poultry House’ initiative to revitalize its poultry sector and enhance food sovereignty. The program, costing over 1.07 billion FCFA, aims to support 500 beneficiaries by providing technical and financial resources. Modern poultry farming kits valued at over 2 million FCFA and traditional kits worth 720,000 FCFA will be distributed to reactivate inactive farms and establish new ones, reducing reliance on imports.

In Senegal, the government is working to transform the Podor department into a productive agricultural hub to create jobs and retain youth. During a recent tour of northern Senegal, Minister of Agriculture Cheikhou Oumar Ba highlighted the importance of converting regional potential into economic opportunities. This includes combating desertification and strengthening value chains in agriculture and livestock, aligned with the ‘Senegal 2050’ national agenda.
