Agricultural innovation investments exceed $16 billion in 2025

Global investments in agricultural innovation exceeded $16 billion in 2025, according to a report by Agfunder. Of this total, $9 billion was allocated to research aimed at increasing agricultural yields, a significant rise from the $2.5 billion recorded in 2016.

This surge in funding comes as food markets face volatility driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and conflicts in the Middle East. Additionally, global warming is contributing to droughts, soil salinization, and extreme weather patterns.

Startups are increasingly integrating artificial intelligence and genetics to produce food more cost-effectively. Key trends identified at the F&A Next meeting in the Netherlands include the development of pesticides that mimic natural molecules to protect plants, inspired by advancements in personalized medicine.
