Economic indicators and agricultural support trends in Latin America
Economic and agricultural developments are unfolding across Latin America. In Argentina, the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC) reported that a typical family of four required $1,632,505 in September 2026 to avoid falling below the poverty line. The Total Basic Basket (CBT) saw a monthly increase of 1.7%, while the Food Basic Basket (CBA), which determines the indigence threshold, also rose by 1.7% to $738,690.
In Mexico, INEGI updated poverty lines, noting that an individual in urban areas required 4,951.66 pesos monthly to cover basic needs, compared to 3,553.70 pesos in rural areas. Meanwhile, the Mexican government is implementing various agricultural support programs. In Puebla, Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier announced investments to strengthen the agricultural sector through technology and equipment. In Campeche, the 'Plan Campeche 2026' has provided direct support to over 500 livestock producers, offering kits including electric fencing and artificial insemination services to improve genetic quality.
In Chile, the FOSIS program is supporting 748 families in the Maule Region through family orchards to improve food security and autonomy in rural communities.
