Agricultural markets face pressure from falling grain prices and fertilizer volatility

International agricultural markets are experiencing significant shifts in commodity prices and input costs. Global grain prices have declined due to increased supply, with wheat dropping nearly 18% in a month, while corn and soy have also seen notable decreases. This downturn in grain prices, combined with a slowdown in private debt placement, may increase pressure on the Argentine exchange rate.

In the fertilizer sector, price trends are diverging. Urea remains stable at approximately US$ 640 per ton, driven by supply constraints and India’s recent unsuccessful attempt to secure 1.7 million tons of urea due to Chinese supplier refusals. Meanwhile, phosphate-based fertilizers like MAP are seeing price increases, while potassium chloride has experienced a price correction. These fluctuations are forcing producers to reassess fertilization strategies to maintain soil productivity and profitability amidst rising input costs.
