Agricultural markets see rising wheat prices and corn deficit

Agricultural markets are showing divergent trends for wheat and corn. In Romania, bread wheat prices have increased compared to previous years, with regional variations: prices reached 186.13 euro/ton in Banat, 186.70 euro/ton in Oltenia, and 200.28 euro/ton in Muntenia. At the Port of Constanta, the FOB price for wheat rose to 228.64 euro/ton, approximately 13% higher than last year, though it has experienced recent fluctuations.

Conversely, corn prices in Romania are currently lower than the previous year. In Banat, corn was quoted at 194.9 euro/ton, compared to 210 euro/ton in the prior period, while in Oltenia, prices dropped to 178.5 euro/ton from 204.3 euro/ton.

On the Euronext exchange, corn saw significant activity following a USDA estimate of a global deficit of nearly 30 million tons for the 2026/27 season, marking the largest production-consumption gap since 1993/94. This drove November delivery contracts up to 275 euro/ton. Meanwhile, wheat contracts remained relatively stable, with December deliveries holding at 243 euro/ton.
