Agricultural markets see wheat and corn declines amid Black Sea tensions
Global agricultural markets are experiencing mixed trends. Wheat prices have dropped to $7.10 per bushel, a two-week low, as traders weigh potential diplomatic efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict against ongoing disruptions in Black Sea exports. Recent Ukrainian strikes on Russian targets in Novorossiysk have raised concerns regarding grain infrastructure, though the Kremlin has expressed interest in US-mediated negotiations in Abu Dhabi.
Corn futures have also declined to below $5.10 per bushel. This follows a recent three-year high, as market participants prepare for the USDA supply and demand report. Despite lower corn yield estimates from StoneX for the US, warmer and drier weather in the Midwest may facilitate faster harvesting.
In Vietnam, the rice market remains stable. Export prices for various varieties, including OM 18 and OM 5451, show little fluctuation. Demand from the Philippines continues to support the outlook for Vietnamese rice exports, even as domestic trading remains slow in regions like the Mekong Delta.
