Agricultural markets show mixed trends in dairy and grain sectors
Agricultural commodity markets are showing mixed trends across dairy and grain sectors. In the dairy market, European prices have seen contrasting movements over the last four weeks: butter prices fell by 1.3% to €413/100 kg, while skimmed milk powder rose by 4.1% to €321/100 kg. Global Dairy Trade (GDT) results also showed divergence, with milk powders increasing in value while cheese and lactose prices declined.
In the grain sector, prices for wheat, barley, and corn have experienced a slight decline as markets await the USDA's WASDE report. Traders are anticipating potential shifts in U.S. corn yield projections. Wheat prices on the CBOT fell by 3 to 5 cents per bushel, influenced by a strong U.S. dollar and abundant global availability.
Geopolitical factors continue to impact trade, with Russian grain exports moving through Baltic ports and Ukrainian exports utilizing the Danube. Additionally, 54 UN member states have called for international support to restore freedom of navigation in the Black Sea to facilitate global grain movement.
