Agricultural ministries report on farming income and food security funding

In Paraguay, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) reported that family farming initiatives generated over 670 million guaraníes in income over the last 36 months. This funding benefited more than 39,000 producers and 1,700 peasant organizations. Minister Carlos Giménez stated that these agricultural policies aim to strengthen family farming and improve production conditions by bringing the state closer to producers.

In Guatemala, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (Maga) is facing a budget shortfall of 35 million quetzales required to distribute fortified food to populations facing food insecurity. While the total estimated cost of the program is 55 million quetzales, the Secretariat of Food and Nutritional Security (Sesán) has agreed to transfer 20 million quetzales to cover the initial purchase.

Vice Minister Dinora Herrera indicated that the ministry is negotiating with the Ministry of Finance to secure the remaining funds. Vice President Karin Herrera, who presides over the National Council for Food and Nutritional Security (Conasán), emphasized the need to expedite administrative procedures to address the needs of 3.2 million people in Guatemala currently experiencing serious food gaps due to drought and agroclimatic conditions.
