Agricultural nutrition strategies impact profitability in livestock and crops

Recent agricultural analyses highlight the importance of data-driven nutrition to optimize yields and profitability in both livestock and crop production.

In the swine industry, experts emphasize that future feeding strategies must move beyond simply adding new ingredients. Success requires analyzing animal behavior, production conditions, and specific farm data to unlock genetic potential. Sandra Carolina Salguero of KPIs Consulting noted that nutritional formulas must be dynamic to match the changing nature of individual farms.

In crop production, an analysis by the Fertilizar Civil Association in Argentina’s core zone demonstrates that reducing fertilizer doses to cut costs can negatively impact gross margins. In early corn, increasing nitrogen from 80 to 160 kg per hectare raised gross margins from US$468 to US$871 per hectare. Similarly, increased phosphate fertilization in rented soybean fields improved margins from US$79 to US$153 per hectare.

Technical data shows that for every ton of corn produced, approximately 20 kg of nitrogen and 4 kg of phosphorus are required, though only about 14 kg of nitrogen and 3 kg of phosphorus are extracted through the harvested grain.
