Agricultural production and funding issues reported in Goa and Odisha

Agricultural reports from Goa and Odisha highlight varying challenges in crop production and government scheme implementation. In Goa, paddy output saw a marginal increase to 1.17 lakh tonnes in 2025-26, up from 1.14 lakh tonnes the previous year. However, farmers face uncertainty as a delayed monsoon and deficient rainfall have pushed the kharif season back by nearly a month, impacting sowing and transplanting.

In Odisha, a review by the Directorate of Horticulture revealed that no funds have been spent on the Potato Mission for the current fiscal year, despite a budget allocation of Rs 366.90 crore for various missions including potato, vegetable, and spice. Similar lack of spending was noted for schemes promoting mushroom and flower cultivation, as well as infrastructure and cold storage facilities. Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister KV Singh Deo has expressed dissatisfaction regarding the slow implementation of these programs and the lack of adequate cold-storage facilities.
