Agricultural productivity and food safety initiatives advance in Peru and Chile

In Peru, approximately 30 producers in the El Carmen sector participated in training sessions regarding artificial insemination for goats and sheep. Organized by PRA Buenaventura in coordination with INIA–PROCAP, the program aims to improve livestock productivity by incorporating selected genetic material. Specialists emphasized the importance of maintaining the adaptability and resistance of local breeds to the dry forest conditions of the northern region.

The initiative seeks to increase family incomes by improving weight gain, reducing mortality rates, and strengthening the production of milk and goat cheese. To participate, beneficiaries must have at least five suitable females, which undergo sanitary and reproductive evaluations.

In Chile, the Magallanes region has concluded a territorial agenda focused on food safety through the PTI Agroalimentos initiative. Supported by ACHIPIA, CORFO, and the Ministry of Agriculture, the program worked with producers across three provinces to identify risk factors in production processes.

The next phase of this project will involve implementing food safety management plans to strengthen production processes, provide consumer guarantees, and facilitate access to more demanding regional and international markets.
