Agricultural sectors face climate impacts and technological shifts
Agricultural sectors in Spain and Argentina are navigating varying challenges and investments. In Álava, Spain, the Udapa cooperative reported a 30% decrease in potato harvests due to high temperatures and lack of rainfall. This resulted in an early and shortened harvest season, with production totaling approximately 9 million kilograms. Despite the lower volume, the cooperative noted that the quality and sanitary state of the potatoes remain high.
In the same region, Ibérica de Patatas has invested 2 million euros in new technology to modernize its production lines. This investment includes advanced optical selection systems designed to triple hourly production while reducing water and energy consumption.
In Tucumán, Argentina, the sugar cane harvest is entering its final stages with 67% of the milling completed. The campaign has faced delays due to heavy rains in early months and gas supply issues. Producers are working to complete the harvest of the remaining cane by late November, provided weather conditions allow.
