Agricultural sectors in Mexico and Uruguay implement new production and safety measures

In Mexico, the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Confederation of Industrial Chambers of Mexico (Concamin) have agreed on a joint agenda to strengthen agro-food production. The initiative aims to provide greater certainty to small and medium-scale producers by establishing fair prices, improving access to financing, and opening new commercial markets.

In Uruguay, authorities are conducting a cabinet simulation to evaluate the country's response to potential foot-and-mouth disease threats. The exercise, organized by the General Directorate of Livestock Services and the National Meat Institute, involves public and private sectors to analyze sanitary response capacities and the potential commercial impact of an outbreak.

Additionally, Uruguay's Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries (MGAP) has issued new guidelines to protect apiaries within agricultural crops. The recommendations emphasize the need for contingency plans, mandatory hive registration, and improved communication between farmers and beekeepers to mitigate risks from phytosanitary applications.
