Agricultural sectors in Morocco and France report seasonal shifts
In Morocco, the 2026-2027 agricultural campaign is set to begin in late October following a successful previous season. A total harvest of 90 million quintals and replenished dam and groundwater reserves have improved conditions for irrigated crops and livestock. While the availability of barley and hay has eased some pressure on breeders, professionals are calling for continued state subsidies for animal feed to offset rising energy and labor costs.
In France, the Ministry of Agriculture has made progress regarding drought compensation. Following meetings with CNGRA and Codar, 111 new crop loss recognition requests across 83 departments have been validated, allowing 90% of departments to open windows for national solidarity compensation claims. Additionally, 11 agricultural calamity requests were recognized in various departments, involving approximately 6 million euros in compensation for perennial crops. Meanwhile, the cattle market is experiencing price tensions due to increased supply as drought-affected breeders accelerate sales.
