Argentina and Panama celebrate agricultural workers and producers
October 8 marks the celebration of Rural Worker's Day in Argentina, a date rooted in the 1944 enactment of the ‘Estatuto del Peón de Campo’. This historic legislation established fundamental labor rights for the agricultural sector, including minimum wages, paid vacations, and medical assistance, transitioning rural labor from paternalistic structures to recognized legal rights.
In Argentina, the day highlights the vital role of rural workers in the national bioeconomic and agro-export complex. Regional developments, such as infrastructure improvements on Provincial Route 28, aim to support the circulation of producers in key agricultural and livestock areas.
Simultaneously, Panama celebrates Producer and Agricultural Science Professional Day. The Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) holds ceremonies to honor men and women in the field who contribute to national food security. Recognitions are awarded to various categories, including large, medium, and family farmers, as well as outstanding researchers and professionals.
