Agricultural shifts in Mozambique and Angola

In Mozambique, agricultural producers in Nampula have raised concerns regarding low purchase prices for surplus crops. During a meeting with provincial Governor Eduardo Abdula, producers reported that the prices paid by traders for commodities such as sesame, cotton, peanuts, soybeans, and sunflower seeds do not reflect the actual value of their labor, primarily benefiting processors and entrepreneurs.

Governor Abdula stated that addressing the value chain issues requires in-depth study and planning, noting that agricultural results depend on rigorous preparation and harvesting processes.

In Angola, the government has officially included maize in its National Production Incentive Regime. Under this new measure, importers are required to purchase 30% of their intended maize imports from local producers. Minister of Industry and Commerce Rui Miguêns de Oliveira stated the move aims to protect national production and support the food processing industry. With national maize production currently estimated between 3.6 and 4.5 million tons against an annual need of 10 million tons, the policy seeks to integrate productive chains and ensure domestic supply.
