Agricultural specialists implement new pest control strategies in South America

Agricultural specialists in South America are addressing pest management through technical training and biological innovations. In Nuevo Torino, Apícola Nuevo Torino has organized a technical workshop focused on the Varroa destructor mite, a significant threat to honeybee health and productivity. Led by agronomist Juan Albino, the session aims to provide tools to combat mite resistance and prevent contagion within hives.

In Paysandú, Uruguay, authorities presented a natural alternative to control the red palm weevil. Agronomist Alda Rodríguez, representing the Crebio Laboratory, introduced a biological control product utilizing a native microscopic fungus. This treatment is designed to be applied to palm trees and soil, targeting the larvae, pupae, and adults of the pest to prevent its expansion in the region.
