Agricultural updates: Burundi rainfall forecasts and French livestock news

In Burundi, the Ministry of Agriculture held a national forum regarding the seasonal forecast for September to December 2026. Augustin Ngenzirabona, Director General of the Institut Géographique du Burundi, reported that the upcoming cultivation season is expected to see higher-than-normal rainfall, ranging between 400 and 450 mm. This trend is linked to the approaching El Nino phenomenon. Experts are emphasizing soil protection through anti-erosive measures and tree planting to manage the increased precipitation.

In France, agricultural reports highlight a significant rise in sheep cerebral fever (serotype 3), with 759 outbreaks recorded since June 1, 2026. The most affected areas include Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Hautes-Pyrénées. Additionally, Inao has extended an exceptional derogation for organic farmers facing forage shortages, allowing the use of certain non-organic feed components up to 10% of their dry matter ration until April 2027.
