Agricultural workshops provide training for shepherds in New Zealand and the US

Agricultural training workshops for shepherds and livestock managers were recently held in New Zealand and the United States, focusing on practical skills and holistic management.

In Waikato, New Zealand, Beef + Lamb NZ hosted a Shepherd’s Day at Tiroa Te Hape Station. The event provided approximately 50 young shepherds with hands-on training in working dog techniques, farm technology, and nutrition. The workshop also emphasized social connection for young workers in the primary sector, with a follow-up event planned for late November.

In Winfield, Kansas, a workshop titled ‘Getting Grounded with Sheep and Stockmanship’ was held at the Graze the Prairie farm. Led by Linda Pechin-Long and Dawn Hnatow, the program taught 21 participants how to integrate Holistic Management principles with traditional stockmanship. The training focused on observing animal behavior and making systemic decisions regarding land, livestock, and finances.
