Agriculture Minister Amran reviews UGM seed innovation projects
Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman visited Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) to review agricultural innovation projects aimed at achieving national food self-sufficiency. During his visit to the Agrotechnology Innovation Center (PIAT), the Minister inspected the development of Gamagora 7 rice seeds, local soybeans, and cocoa.
The Ministry of Agriculture has allocated Rp7.7 billion this year to support the collaboration with UGM for the development and distribution of superior seeds. Minister Amran expressed a goal to increase soybean productivity to at least 3 tons per hectare. If these targets are met, the government plans to expand the partnership, with discussions already underway to develop soybeans across 2,000 to 5,000 hectares in 2027.
In a public lecture at the UGM Faculty of Agriculture, Amran urged students to utilize research and technology to solve real-world agricultural challenges. He emphasized the importance of the younger generation in driving innovation, citing the long-term research into Belgian Blue cattle as an example of how scientific advancement can benefit the national livestock sector.
