AGRIF sues La France Insoumise for anti‑Christian remarks at summer conference

The Association de défense de la liberté de conscience et de la laïcité (AGRIF) filed a criminal complaint against the left‑wing party La France Insoumise (LFI), alleging aggravated public insult toward Christians. The complaint stems from a statement made by an audience member during a conference titled “Les visages internationaux de l’extrême droite,” held at LFI’s summer university in Châteauneuf‑sur‑Isère in August 2025 and chaired by deputy Raphaël Arnaut.

In parallel, LFI’s summer university has become a platform for cultural figures to endorse the party’s upcoming presidential campaign for 2027. Notable writers such as Annie Ernaux, Éric Vuillard, and Pierre Lemaitre, along with actress Anna Mouglalis and other public personalities, have spoken at LFI events, signalling broad literary support for party leader Jean‑Luc Mélenchon as the campaign builds toward the 2027 election.
