Agrigento Bassa station faces waste collection crisis
Waste collection has been suspended at the Agrigento Bassa station for approximately one and a half months, according to local residents and cleaning service operators. The accumulation of unsorted waste in a storage area has created unsanitary conditions, characterized by foul odors and the presence of rats and insects.
City Councilor Marcello Fattori has been acting as an intermediary between workers and the municipal administration following reports from station service manager Innocenzo Ferraro. The lack of collection is reportedly due to issues with waste sorting; while the administration has cited incorrect recycling, workers claim that users frequently mix materials in station bins, making manual separation impossible for cleaning staff.
Although municipal assessor Giuseppe Riccobene previously indicated that a solution would be implemented within days, the situation remains unresolved more than two weeks later. Workers continue to call for urgent intervention to ensure dignified working conditions.
