Agrigento joins international coastal city network for climate resilience

Agrigento has joined an international network of coastal cities aimed at addressing the challenges of rising sea levels. The announcement was made by Mayor Michele Sodano following meetings at the 4th Climate Mobility Summit in New York, specifically during discussions regarding the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on Sea-Level Rise.

By joining this coalition, Agrigento seeks to collaborate with geographically diverse cities—including Venice, Porto, Vlora, Larnaca, and others—to share proven strategies and develop joint projects. A primary goal of this cooperation is to increase the collective ability to secure international funding dedicated to climate adaptation and coastal resilience.

The initiative is linked to the Ocean Rise & Coastal Resilience Coalition, which facilitates cooperation between local administrations, scientific institutions, and financial entities. The coalition aims to transform planning into concrete infrastructure projects to combat coastal erosion and protect communities from the effects of rising oceans.
