Agrigento medical order celebrates veteran doctors and new graduates

The Order of Surgeons and Dentists held a traditional ceremony at the Pirandello Theatre in Agrigento to honor medical professionals reaching their 50th anniversary of graduation and to witness the Hippocratic Oath taken by new medical graduates.

Santo Pitruzzella, president of the Order, described the event as a symbolic passing of the torch between generations. He emphasized that the Hippocratic Oath is a profound commitment rather than a mere formal pact. Luigi Burruano, president of the Dentists' Commission, noted that while medicine is increasingly influenced by technological innovation and artificial intelligence, the core mission remains the health of the patients.

Local Mayor Michele Sodano attended the event, highlighting the importance of prevention and early diagnosis. Among the honorees, veteran doctors shared reflections on the evolving nature of patient care and the historical challenges faced by women in the medical profession.
