Agrigento pharmacists expand role in healthcare prevention services
Pharmacists in Agrigento, Italy, are expanding their role within the healthcare system to focus on primary and secondary prevention through a model of proximity services. During a series of training sessions organized by the Order of Pharmacists of Agrigento and Federfarma, medical professionals, local health authorities (Asp), and citizens discussed integrating pharmacy services into the national health reform.
Key initiatives include the management of oncological screenings. Pharmacists will now be able to assist with booking screenings for breast and cervical cancer, as well as distributing kits for colorectal cancer screening. Other topics of discussion included health literacy, the electronic health record, and the pharmaceutical dossier. Maurizio Pace, president of the Order of Pharmacists of Agrigento, emphasized that this collaborative approach aims to create a unified healthcare vision that serves the community through dialogue between pharmacists, doctors, and institutions.
