Agrigento Prosecutor requests trial for man who fabricated murder story

The Agrigento Prosecutor's Office has requested a trial for 35-year-old Giuseppe Li Vecchi of Siculiana. Li Vecchi is accused of stalking, defamation, and causing a false alarm after fabricating a story on social media regarding a woman named Samantha Castelli.

Investigators determined that Castelli never actually existed. The suspect allegedly used artificial intelligence to create a photograph of the non-existent victim and used various social media profiles to accuse a local priest of sexual violence and murder. He also reportedly claimed the priest offered him money to remain silent.

The investigation revealed that Li Vecchi sent messages to the diocesan Caritas and local news outlets warning of a potential attack on the priest during a religious mass, which prompted law enforcement to increase security at the church. He is currently under a restraining order prohibiting him from approaching the priest.
