Agrigento residents face water cut‑off as Codacons sues water provider

The provincial branch of consumer association Codacons in Agrigento has issued a formal legal notice to AICA, the municipal water company, the local council and regional authorities. The notice complains that residents of the coastal Maddalusa area have been denied access to potable water because the water provider refuses to supply water tankers without a standard supply contract, which cannot be obtained due to zoning restrictions. Codacons argues that the prolonged lack of water creates serious sanitary risks and hardships for families, especially the elderly, children and disabled.

The association demands that the ban on water delivery be lifted, that emergency measures be put in place to guarantee a minimum amount of water for domestic use, and that the tanker scheduling system be re‑organized. It also calls on the Prefect of Agrigento and the President of the Sicilian Region to assess public‑order and health implications, and warns that it will take the case to the administrative court and notify regulators if no response is received within 15 days.
