Agrigento security concerns rise following violent assaults in Via Atenea

Two violent assaults occurring within a few hours in Agrigento's Via Atenea have heightened security concerns in the city center. One incident involved a 27-year-old man being beaten by a group following a dispute, while another 30-year-old victim was found unconscious and hospitalized after an attack.

Francesco Picarella, president of the Agrigento municipal delegation of Confcommercio, expressed widespread distress among local business owners. He noted that security issues, particularly during weekends, are affecting both merchants and citizens. To prevent future dangerous situations, Picarella suggested limiting the hours for alcohol sales at 24-hour service stations to curb the presence of disruptive groups in the area.
