Agrigento university hub revitalization plan launched

Local authorities and academic leaders have launched a strategic plan to revitalize the university hub in Agrigento, Sicily. The initiative aims to strengthen educational offerings, improve student services, and upgrade physical infrastructure to better align with the economic needs of the territory.

During a coordination meeting at the University of Palermo, representatives including Rector Massimo Midiri, Mayor Michele Sodano, and leaders from the Libero Consorzio and ECUA discussed immediate actions. These include managing the via Quartararo campus, redeveloping spaces, and addressing the future of the former Agrigento hospital buildings.

The plan seeks to expand the consortium to include municipalities, professional orders, and the business community. Alfonso Buscemi, General Secretary of the CGIL of Agrigento, emphasized that the university must be treated as a strategic infrastructure to prevent the loss of young people to other regions, calling for a long-term pact between institutions and the private sector.
