Agrigento Vice Mayor expelled from Controcorrente movement
Ismaele La Vardera, leader of the Controcorrente movement, has announced the expulsion of Agrigento Vice Mayor Giovanni Crosta following a controversy regarding an unauthorized property. The dispute centers on a house Crosta inherited from his father, which has had a pending legalization request since 1985.
La Vardera criticized the situation as a matter of political opportunity and credibility rather than criminal liability. He argued that Crosta’s position creates a conflict of interest, as the Vice Mayor would be in a position where he is simultaneously the controller and the controlled. La Vardera also noted a perceived double standard, pointing to other areas in Agrigento facing water shortages due to unauthorized building status.
Mayor Michele Sodano has defended Crosta, stating that inheriting a property with a long-standing legalization request does not imply a lack of moral integrity. Sodano noted that no crimes have been alleged and indicated that the administration would handle the matter internally.
