Agrigento Vice Mayor faces resignation calls over building amnesty dispute
A political dispute has emerged in Agrigento following calls for the resignation of Vice Mayor Giovanni Crosta. Ismaele La Vardera, leader of the Controcorrente movement, demanded Crosta step down due to an inherited property with a pending building amnesty application.
While acknowledging that the illegal construction was not committed by Crosta himself, La Vardera raised concerns regarding the political appropriateness of an official overseeing an administration that is currently processing the amnesty request for his own property. The movement also contested Crosta’s previous statements regarding the building's occupancy.
Crosta has defended himself against what he described as a violent media campaign, noting that the amnesty request has been pending since 1985. Mayor Michele Sodano has supported the Vice Mayor, stating that no crimes have been alleged and that Crosta remains a highly valued administrator for the city.
