Agrinio special education schools face serious safety risks

Spyros Tsironis, a Member of Parliament for NIKI representing Achaia, has submitted a formal parliamentary question and request for documents regarding the safety and accessibility of special education schools in Agrinio. The inquiry concerns 101 students with disabilities attending the EEEKE and ENEEYGL facilities, which are currently housed in the same rented two-story building.

Reports indicate significant structural and safety concerns. The 61 students of the ENEEYGL are located on the first floor, which lacks a proper ramp for entry. Access to the elevator requires passing through the EEEKE facility, and the elevator is reportedly unreliable. Furthermore, the school's courtyard consists of a hard concrete surface rather than a certified safety floor suitable for students with various physical and sensory disabilities.

Of particular concern is the potential for emergency evacuations during earthquakes or fires, given that many students on the upper floor may require individualized assistance. Tsironis is demanding information on fire safety, structural integrity, and evacuation plans. He is calling for an immediate relocation to a suitable public building and the construction of a modern, purpose-built special education facility in Aetolia-Acarnania.
