Agrinio university presence under scrutiny by Kostas Pistiolas
Kostas Pistiolas, leader of the ‘Agrinio – Pame Psila’ faction, has called for concrete actions to secure the future of university departments in Agrinio. During a municipal council accountability session, Pistiolas highlighted declining student enrollment numbers as a critical issue requiring immediate attention.
Data presented showed that the Sustainable Agriculture Department saw only 12 enrollments in 2023, 16 in 2024, and 13 in 2025, despite having 120 available spots. He also noted a decrease in students within the Food Science and Technology Department.
Pistiolas proposed using the two existing departments as a foundation to establish an Agricultural School in Agrinio. Additionally, he emphasized the need for student housing infrastructure, questioning Agrinio’s role in the national 1 billion euro investment plan for student dormitories, which aims to provide 8,500 beds across various Greek cities.
