Agrio River Basin archaeological project gains US and UK researchers

International researchers from the United States and the United Kingdom have joined an archaeological project in the Agrio River Basin, Neuquén. The initiative aims to study and document a territory with a history spanning at least 8,000 years.

The project utilizes new technologies, including artificial intelligence and algorithms, to analyze surface traces on the terrain. These digital tools are being used alongside traditional methods such as the study of sediments and archaeobotanical remains to deepen the understanding of the region's cultural heritage.

The research is supported by a cooperation agreement between the Neuquén Provincial Government and the University of Michigan. The team includes specialists from the University of Michigan, Cornell University, the University of Arizona, and Queen Mary University of London, as well as representatives from the U.S. National Park Service.
