Agrippa Ionescu Emergency Hospital opens in Balotești
The Prof. Dr. Agrippa Ionescu Emergency Clinical Hospital in Balotești has officially opened following an investment exceeding 961 million lei. The project was 95% funded by non-reimbursable European funds through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), with the remaining 5% provided by the Romanian Ministry of Health.
The facility spans a total area of 55,062 square meters, comprising a newly constructed building of approximately 37,269 square meters and a fully rehabilitated existing structure of approximately 17,793 square meters. Integrated into a medical and educational campus, the hospital features 520 beds, including 460 for continuous hospitalization and 60 for day hospitalization, organized across 19 sections.
Medical capabilities include 14 operating rooms—one of which is a hybrid room for cardiovascular surgery—two angiography rooms, three digestive endoscopy rooms, and a bronchoscopy laboratory. The hospital is equipped with PET-CT, SPECT-CT, and radiotherapy technology to expand oncological diagnostic and treatment services. Additionally, the facility provides 41 intensive care beds, specialized burn care units, and advanced medical recovery equipment such as exoskeletons and robotic mobilization systems.
