Agrium Capital and Ghana sign US$270 million poultry investment agreement
Agrium Capital, a UK-based agrifood investment firm, has signed an agreement with Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme (24H+) to advance a proposed US$270 million investment in the nation’s poultry industry. The agreement, signed in London, aims to develop the technical and investment frameworks necessary to establish a commercially viable poultry sector.
The initiative is designed to create 12,000 direct jobs, enhance food security, and reduce Ghana’s annual poultry import bill, which is estimated at approximately US$400 million. The first phase of the project targets an annual production of 20,000 tonnes of processed broiler products, with long-term capacity expected to reach 50,000 tonnes.
Witnesses to the signing included Petra Trust, Axis Pension Trust, and Ghana EXIM Bank. Presidential Adviser Augustus Goosie Tanoh noted that the deal represents an effort to combine international private investment with Ghanaian institutional capital to foster productive industries.
