Agrivoltaic solutions integrate solar energy with agriculture

Agrivoltaic solutions are being utilized in France, Sicily, and Switzerland to resolve the conflict between solar energy production and agricultural land use.

In France, specifically at the Institut des Sciences de la Vigne et du Vin near Bordeaux, solar panels are mounted above vineyards. These panels can rotate to optimize light for the vines or position themselves horizontally to protect crops from hail. Similar setups are used in Sicily over fruit trees and in other regions over pastures to provide shade for livestock during heatwaves.

Additionally, floating solar panels are being deployed on reservoirs. This method increases energy production, improves panel efficiency through water cooling, and reduces water evaporation from the reservoirs.
