Agrobeydaaré launches biochar project in Tambacounda

The agricultural company Agrobeydaaré has launched a project in Tambacounda to produce biochar and organic charcoal using agricultural residues, such as millet stalks and peanut shells. Funded by the Yaakaar Environnement program of the Consortium jeunesse Sénégal (CJS), the initiative aims to promote a sustainable energy and agricultural transition.

The six-month project intends to train 200 people, specifically targeting a demographic of 70% women and 30% youth. Beyond creating new income-generating activities, the project seeks to reduce pressure on forest resources caused by traditional wood charcoal production and mitigate the effects of climate change.

Abdoulaye Tam, the coordinator for the Yaakaar Environnement Fund for the Tambacounda and Kolda regions, noted that eight initiatives in Tambacounda have been selected for a total funding of 20 million FCFA under this program.
