Agrobiotech Innovation Forum opens in Lleida to promote agricultural technology

The second edition of the Agrobiotech Innovation Forum has opened at Fira de Lleida, featuring over 200 companies and 70 professional sessions. The event focuses on utilizing technology to increase competitiveness, efficiency, and sustainability in the agri-food sector while addressing challenges such as climate change and resource scarcity.

During the inauguration, Spain’s Secretary of State for Agriculture and Food, Begoña García, highlighted the importance of technology for productivity. She also noted a preliminary agreement among 27 EU member states regarding the Common Agricultural Policy (PAC) reform, stating that at least 10% of funds will be dedicated to encouraging young people to enter the primary and agri-food sectors.

While the forum showcases innovations like autonomous electric tractors and agricultural robots, some industry professionals expressed concerns regarding high production costs and shrinking profit margins, which may hinder new investments. The event aims to consolidate its position as an international reference for innovation and bioeconomy.
