Agroecology and technology integration highlighted in international agricultural forums

At the Terra Madre 2026 international event in Turin, Italy, the Venezuelan Society of Agronomists and Affiliates (SVIAA) proposed integrating agroecology with 4.0 technology to promote soil regeneration and food sustainability. SVIAA President Saúl Elías López advocated for a shift from extractive models to an ecocentric approach, arguing that technology such as satellite mapping, moisture sensors, and data analytics can optimize bio-inputs and water management.

In Chile, the startup Permacultura Tech was recognized by the Bayer Foundation’s LEGADO 2026 program for its smart irrigation solution, IAgroTech. The system uses artificial intelligence and sensors to monitor soil conditions and water usage in real time, providing alerts to farmers via mobile devices. Notably, the technology is designed to function in rural areas without stable internet connections, potentially saving up to 40% of water usage.
