Agroenvironmental Tribunal urges approval of new procedural code

The Agroenvironmental Tribunal has expressed urgent concern regarding the delay in the Plurinational Legislative Assembly approving the Agroenvironmental Procedural Code. The project, also known as the Special Law of Procedure for the Agroenvironmental Jurisdiction, is currently awaiting approval in the Senate.

During a seminar at the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés, Tribunal President Roxana Chávez and General Secretary Juan Pablo Guzmán emphasized that the code is essential to provide a legal instrument capable of protecting the environment, water, and nature in accordance with the Constitution. The proposed law aims to modernize the judicial framework to address contemporary challenges such as forest fires, wildlife trafficking, river pollution, and illegal mercury mining.

Chávez noted that constitutional rulings have previously urged the approval of this procedural law to ensure the jurisdiction can effectively manage conflicts related to property, possession, agrarian activity, and natural resources. The jurisdiction currently operates with 63 agroenvironmental courts.
