Agronomist arrested in Palmas for suspected insurance fraud

A 39-year-old agronomist and surveyor has been preventively arrested in Palmas, Tocantins, on suspicion of reporting a false vehicle theft to defraud insurance companies. The investigation, conducted by the 48th Police Station of Guaraí, began after the suspect reported the alleged theft of his luxury pickup truck.

Investigators determined the theft was fabricated to obtain insurance payouts. Authorities noted that this was likely not the suspect's first attempt, as previous records of similar insurance claims and license plate losses were identified.

The arrest was part of ‘Operação Captura’, a national initiative coordinated by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. During searches at the suspect's residence in Palmas, police seized cell phones, bank cards, and vehicle keys. At a property in the rural area of Santa Rosa do Tocantins, officers also recovered a .38 caliber revolver, various types of ammunition, and a restricted-use 5.56 caliber rifle round.
