Between January 1 and August 26, 2026, approximately 1.28 million hectares of insured land were affected. Crop losses alone are estimated at nearly 326 million euros, impacting various sectors such as fruit, vineyards, vegetables, and citrus. August storms specifically caused damages valued at roughly 50 million euros.
Fires have also significantly impacted the sector, affecting 16,377 hectares of insured land with expected indemnities of around 2.7 million euros. Data shows that the surface area affected by fires in 2026 is among the highest in the last decade, contributing to a total of over 116,500 hectares burned over the past ten years.
To manage these risks, the Spanish government increased its allocation for the 2026 Insurance Plan from 315 million to 344 million euros to help farmers and ranchers cope with increasingly frequent climate-related phenomena.
