Agrosostenible transforms Panamanian farm into agricultural innovation lab

Agrosostenible S.A. has transformed nine hectares of the La Vieja Molienda farm in Coclé, Panama, into an open-air innovation laboratory focused on sustainable agriculture and climate change adaptation.

Supported by funding from the National Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation (Senacyt), the project implements circular economy principles to optimize production. Key technological advancements include a self-compensating drip irrigation system covering three hectares and approximately 6,700 robusta coffee plants. This system allows for precise water management and fertigation during periods of low water availability.

The initiative also focuses on waste valorization by converting coffee pulp and husks into biofertilizer. By composting these residues with tilapia production waste and beneficial microorganisms, the farm produces a commercial biofertilizer branded as ‘Aborgánico’.
