Agualva-Cacém bus accident attributed to human error

An investigation into the July bus accident in Agualva-Cacém, Sintra, has concluded that the incident was caused by human error. The accident, involving a Carris Metropolitana bus, resulted in two deaths and 20 injuries.

Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa (TML) stated that technical analyses conducted by the operator, Viação Alvorada, found no evidence of mechanical failure. The vehicle had undergone mandatory inspections and followed all manufacturer-prescribed maintenance plans. Subsequent technical tests on the braking system and electronic diagnostics also showed no faults.

The report noted that the driver met all professional requirements, including initial training, medical evaluations, and specific training for the vehicle model. In response to the findings, Viação Alvorada has implemented additional preventive measures, including reinforced operational procedures for drivers.
